P2P in Colombia: what the rules say
Colombia's financial intelligence unit, the UIAF, issued Resolution 314 on 15 December 2021. It covers virtual asset service providers, including those that exchange virtual assets for pesos, and makes them report to the UIAF every month: individual transactions of USD 150 or more, multiple transactions that together reach USD 450, and suspicious operations, all through its online system SIREL.
The tax authority added a second reporting layer. DIAN Resolution 000240 of 24 December 2025 applies the OECD's Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework: from tax year 2026, any provider that carries out exchanges for clients, acting as counterparty or intermediary, or that runs a trading platform must report its reportable users, the type of crypto involved, and the fair value and number of their transactions. Holland & Knight notes that the first report, covering 2026, is due by the last business day of May 2027.
How people pay: Nequi, Bre-B keys, Daviplata
- Nequi is the method peso sellers list most often. Nequi and Daviplata low-amount deposit accounts are capped at 210.5 UVT a month, COP 11,024,727 in 2026, counting deposits, withdrawals and payments together. When a user reaches that figure, Nequi blocks new deposits, withdrawals or payments for the rest of the monthly cycle unless the account is switched to a savings account, so a busy seller near the cap can fail to receive your transfer.
- Bre-B keys ("llaves") belong to the Banco de la República's instant-payment system, which marked its first year in October 2026 with more than 116 million registered keys and 245 participating banks, cooperatives and wallets. A key can be an ID number, mobile number, email or alphanumeric code, and each key points to a single account. The central bank set the per-transaction ceiling at about COP 11 million and a maximum of 20 seconds for funds to reach the recipient; each bank may set a lower ceiling or a daily cap.
- Bank accounts at Bancolombia, Davivienda, BBVA and Banco de Bogotá appear on many of the other ads. A transfer from a third party's account is hard for the seller to match to your verified exchange name, so send from your own.
Tax and reporting
DIAN's unified concept on crypto assets, dated 17 October 2023, says cryptocurrencies are not legally recognised money in Colombia and are taxed as intangible assets. Residents must list the crypto they hold on 31 December in the wealth section of their annual income-tax return. Income from disposing of crypto is taxable, and so is a swap into a different coin that produces income, while moving coins between your own wallets is not, because ownership stays the same. Gains that qualify as occasional gains follow article 299 onwards of the Tax Statute. On the payment side, the 4x1000 levy on financial transactions applies to Nequi and Daviplata movements above 65 UVT a month.

Questions people ask
What is the USDT to COP rate today?
Right now buying 1,000 USDT on P2P costs about 3,137 COP per USDT (3,136,873 COP in total). Selling 1,000 USDT gets about 3,130 per USDT. Updated 27 Oct 2026, 14:59 UTC.
Why is the P2P price different from the official exchange rate?
The official mid rate is 3,170 COP per dollar. P2P sellers price in local demand for dollars, payment risk and their margin, so the P2P price is 1.06% below the official rate at the moment.
Which platform is cheapest for USDT in Colombia right now?
Binance P2P has the best eligible price for a 1,000 USDT order in the latest observation. Platforms change places during the day; the table above is refreshed every 90 seconds for COP.
Is crypto legal in Colombia?
Yes. DIAN's unified concept of 17 October 2023 treats crypto as intangible assets that residents must declare, while noting that cryptocurrencies are not legally recognised money. Providers that exchange crypto for pesos report to the financial intelligence unit under UIAF Resolution 314 of 2021, including monthly reports of transactions from USD 150. From tax year 2026, DIAN Resolution 000240 adds annual reporting on users and transactions by crypto service providers, with the first report due in May 2027.
Is there crypto tax in Colombia?
Yes. DIAN treats crypto as an intangible asset, so residents declare the crypto they hold on 31 December in the wealth section of their income-tax return. Income from selling crypto is taxable, as is a swap into another coin that produces income; moving coins between your own wallets is not taxed because ownership does not change. Gains that qualify as occasional gains follow article 299 onwards of the Tax Statute. Keep the order history and payment receipts for every P2P trade.
Does Binance accept Nequi?
On P2P, Nequi is the payment method Colombian peso sellers list most often across the exchanges we track, so you pay the seller's Nequi account directly and the seller then releases the USDT. Watch the account limits: Nequi and Daviplata low-amount accounts are capped at 210.5 UVT a month, COP 11,024,727 in 2026, and a user who reaches it cannot receive more that month unless the account becomes a savings account. Movements above 65 UVT a month also attract the 4x1000 levy.
