P2P in Bangladesh: what the rules say

Bangladesh Bank treats crypto dealing as a foreign exchange offence. Its FE Circular No. 24 of 15 September 2022, issued by the Foreign Exchange Policy Department, says section 2(b)(i) of the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act, 1947 does not recognise virtual currencies, and that any transaction made in, from or to Bangladesh to obtain virtual assets is not permitted. It tells all individuals, entities and institutions operating in Bangladesh to refrain from dealing in virtual assets or facilitating their exchange, transfer or trading. A breach counts as a contravention of section 5(1)(e) of the Act and is subject to cognizance under section 23(1). The circular builds on a public notice of 29 July 2021 and on FE Circular No. 39 of 18 November 2021, so the stance is not new. Read literally, it leaves no Bangladesh Bank-approved route for buying USDT with taka on any platform in the table above.

How people pay: bKash, Nagad, Rocket

Taka sellers almost always ask for a mobile financial services (MFS) wallet: bKash, Nagad or Dutch-Bangla Bank's Rocket. That matters because FE Circular No. 24 is addressed to MFS providers among others and asks them to bring its contents to their customers' notice.

  • Limits: Bangladesh Bank re-fixed MFS limits in PSD Circular No. 05 of 27 March 2025. The Business Standard reported a maximum wallet balance of Tk 5 lakh, agent cash-out of Tk 30,000 a day and Tk 2 lakh a month, no cap on the number of transactions, and that MFS providers may set these limits considering their own risk.
  • Rules change at short notice: the central bank issued PSD-1 Circular No. 01 of 8 February 2026 on MFS and P2P transactions around the 13th parliamentary election, and BFIU Circular Letter No. 03 of 5 February 2026 on enforcing transaction monitoring systems at MFS providers.
  • Rocket offers person-to-person transfer in real time; Dutch-Bangla Bank says no one can withdraw money without holding the handset, PIN and check digit together. Never share the PIN or check digit with a counterparty who claims to need it to confirm a payment.

Tax and reporting

There is no crypto tax schedule to follow. The National Board of Revenue's authentic English text of the Income Tax Act, 2023, published under SRO No. 404-Law/2025, contains no provision on virtual or crypto assets; its only blockchain reference is a time-limited exemption for income from blockchain-based solution development between 1 July 2024 and 30 June 2027. For a P2P user the binding text is the FE circular, not a tax rule.

Questions people ask

What is the USDT to BDT rate today?

Right now buying 1,000 USDT on P2P costs about 127.44 BDT per USDT (127,436 BDT in total). Selling 1,000 USDT gets about 128.81 per USDT. Updated 27 Oct 2026, 15:33 UTC.

Why is the P2P price different from the official exchange rate?

The official mid rate is 123.50 BDT per dollar. P2P sellers price in local demand for dollars, payment risk and their margin, so the P2P price is 3.18% above the official rate at the moment.

Which platform is cheapest for USDT in Bangladesh right now?

Bitget P2P has the best eligible price for a 1,000 USDT order in the latest observation. Platforms change places during the day; the table above is refreshed every 90 seconds for BDT.

Is crypto legal in Bangladesh?

Bangladesh Bank does not permit it. FE Circular No. 24 of 15 September 2022 says the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act, 1947 does not recognise virtual currencies and that transactions made in, from or to Bangladesh to obtain virtual assets are not permitted. It tells everyone operating in Bangladesh to refrain from dealing in virtual assets or facilitating their trade, and treats a breach as a contravention of section 5(1)(e) of the Act, subject to cognizance under section 23(1). The circular repeats warnings issued in 2021.

Is Binance legal in Bangladesh?

Bangladesh Bank's rules do not single out any platform; they apply to the transaction. FE Circular No. 24 says any transaction made in, from or to Bangladesh to obtain virtual assets is not permitted, and it asks banks and MFS providers such as bKash, Nagad and Rocket to make their customers aware of that. Using Binance P2P or any other exchange to buy USDT with taka therefore falls under the same restriction, whichever platform shows the best rate in the table above.

Is crypto trading taxed in Bangladesh?

There is no crypto-specific tax rule. The National Board of Revenue's authentic English text of the Income Tax Act, 2023, published under SRO No. 404-Law/2025, contains no provision on virtual or crypto assets. Its only blockchain reference is a time-limited exemption for income from blockchain-based solution development between July 2024 and June 2027, which concerns software businesses, not trading. For anyone trading from Bangladesh, the binding rule is Bangladesh Bank's foreign exchange circular rather than a tax schedule.
