Paying with M-Pesa on Binance, Bybit and OKX P2P

None of the three exchanges treats M-Pesa as one method. Binance's shilling filter lists M-PESA Kenya (Safaricom), M-pesa Paybill, Mpesa Pochi la Biashara and Instant M-Pesa as separate entries, and OKX and Bybit ads split a Safaricom number from a Paybill and from Pochi la Biashara in the same way; the KES page notes that Paybill ads are the majority. Each label is paid from its own menu, and a Paybill takes a business number plus an account number.

The name rules come from the platforms. Binance wants the paying account in a name identical to your verified one, bars payments into a third-party account, and suspends P2P for at least seven days after a payment from an account that is not real-name verified. Bybit's payment guide lets the advertiser cancel and refund over a name mismatch, and its KES market banner lists "third-party or split payments" as violations, which bites on an order bigger than one M-Pesa transaction allows. OKX tells Kenyan traders to pay only the method and details on the order, not to switch from a Paybill to a till number mid-trade, and to avoid paying a business account when the seller is an individual. Binance gives a seller 15 minutes to release once full payment is confirmed.

Settlement time and limits

Under Safaricom's customer terms a completed transfer reaches the recipient at once, and both sides get an SMS with a unique receipt number; OKX suggests pasting that code into the order chat rather than a picture of it. Pochi la Biashara runs on the merchant's existing number and, by Safaricom's FAQ, under the normal M-PESA limits that the KES page lists.

Fees depend on the route. Sending to another M-PESA user costs up to KES 108 at the top of Safaricom's table, paying Pochi la Biashara has a separate, lower table for three months from 1 August 2026, and a Buy Goods till charges the merchant rather than the customer.

Two features change what each side sees. Hakikisha shows the payer the recipient's name before the payment goes through, and for a Paybill that is the name on the business's own records. Under Safaricom's P2P data minimisation, published in August 2026, whoever receives a person-to-person transfer sees two names and a partly masked number; the full details need a request to 334 within 24 hours, which the sender may refuse. Pochi la Biashara and Lipa na M-PESA still give businesses full details.

Questions people ask

How much is USDT right now when paying with M-Pesa?

Counting only ads that accept M-Pesa, a 1,000 USDT order averaged 130.00 KES (about 129,997 KES) in the latest observation, across 108 ads. The cards above refresh every 90 seconds.

Which platform has the most sellers accepting M-Pesa?

In the latest observation OKX P2P had the most checked M-Pesa ads (48). Counts move all day; the sellers table above is sorted by price and names the platform.

How is the price on this page calculated?

We take the public P2P ads of Binance, OKX, Bybit, Bitget and HTX, keep the ones that can fill the order size, walk them from the best price and average what the order would cost. Bait prices more than 3% better than the median of the top 20, and merchants under 50 orders or below 90% completion, are excluded. Numbers are recomputed every 90 seconds; the methodology page has the full rules.

What is the M-Pesa reversal time limit?

For a self-reversal it is 24 hours. Safaricom's DIY reversal works by forwarding the original confirmation SMS to 456; only the sender or the recipient can ask, the transfer has to be Safaricom to Safaricom between people, the recipient needs enough balance for a full or partial reversal, and each transaction gets three attempts. A reply SMS says whether the request worked and how long it will take. Outside that route the customer terms let Safaricom reverse a payment at its discretion for manifest error or fraud, but only if the claim is made within one month and the money has not yet been redeemed.

Does Pochi la Biashara have a limit?

Yes, the ordinary M-PESA ones. Safaricom's Pochi la Biashara FAQ says the normal per-transaction and daily M-PESA limits apply, which are the same caps the USDT to KES page gives for any M-Pesa payment. A merchant opts in through *334# on the line already registered for M-PESA, with no new number or till issued, and customers pay by entering that phone number in the M-PESA app, on *334# or in the SIM toolkit. For the three months from 1 August 2026 Safaricom's tariff page carries a separate charge table for paying Pochi merchants.

What is the difference between M-Pesa Paybill and till number?

A Paybill payment asks for a business number and an account number, while a Buy Goods till needs only the till number and the amount; both are confirmed with your M-PESA PIN. Safaricom's tariff page puts the cost of a till payment on the merchant, with nothing charged to the customer. The Hakikisha pop-up also appears on Paybill payments and shows the name taken from the business's registered records. On a P2P order OKX says to pay only the method shown on the order, and names a switch from a Paybill to a till number mid-trade as something to avoid.
