OKX P2P: How It Works and Where It Is Cheaper
OKX P2P is the peer-to-peer market inside the OKX exchange. You buy USDT from a merchant and pay that merchant in your own currency through a bank transfer or wallet app; OKX never touches the money. What OKX does is hold the merchant's crypto from the moment you place an order and release it to you once the merchant confirms your payment has arrived. This guide walks through a purchase from sign-up to release, covers the rules where OKX differs from other P2P markets, such as its T+N lock on newly bought coins, and shows how to check on this site where OKX is the cheaper place to buy.
How the market is set up
- Who you trade with. The ads come from other OKX users and from merchants in its P2P Merchant Program, which has Lite, Super and Diamond tiers. The guide to picking a P2P merchant explains what the tiers require.
- How you pay. Because you pay merchants directly, the choice of payment methods is wider than on a normal exchange, and it differs from one merchant to the next.
- What it costs. OKX says it charges zero fee on P2P trading. Your bank or wallet may still charge for the transfer you send.
- Two ways to buy. Express takes your amount and payment method and matches you with an ad. P2P trading shows the list of ads so you can choose the merchant yourself.
Step 1: Create your account and verify your identity
- Sign up on OKX. On the website or in the app, select Sign up, choose your country or region, accept the terms, then enter your email address and confirm it with the code OKX sends. OKX requires both an email address and a phone number, so you then add your number with the right country code and enter the SMS code. Each email address and each phone number can be used for only one OKX account.
- A referral code is optional at this stage. If you have one, type it in carefully: OKX says referral relationships are confirmed only through the code entered at sign-up.
- Complete identity verification. On the web it sits under the profile icon, Verification, Individual account; in the app, under Account settings, Identity verification. You give your country of residence, nationality, full name, date of birth, ID number and residential address, upload a valid government ID, take a selfie, and in some cases add proof of address. OKX says it reviews applications within 24 hours. You must be at least 18, and an unverified account cannot buy or sell crypto at all.
- Get the details right first time. OKX links one identity document to one account, and once verification is complete it cannot be changed or cancelled.
- Know what your verification decides. OKX says verified users can only buy and sell on P2P in the fiat currency of their registered region, and that payment methods from other countries are not supported. The bank account or card you pay from must be in the same name as your verified account.
Step 2: Choose Express or the ad list
In the app, go to P2P trading; on the website, Buy crypto, then P2P trading.
- Express: choose Buy, enter the amount, pick USDT and your payment method, then preview the order. The preview locks the quote for a short countdown, which OKX puts at roughly 10 to 30 seconds; if it runs out, you refresh and get matched again.
- P2P trading: choose Buy, set your currency, USDT and payment method, and filter the ads. Each listing shows the merchant's price, available amount, order limits, accepted payment methods and completion rate.
For a first purchase, use the ad list. Express is convenient once you know the market, but it chooses the merchant for you, and a first order is when you most want to look at who you are paying.
Step 3: Read the ad and place the order
- Pick an ad whose order limits contain your amount and whose payment methods include one you can use right now. OKX shows each merchant's completion rate in the list; tap the nickname for the full profile, which also gives the 30-day figure.
- Select Buy, enter the amount within the limits and choose the payment method, then confirm. In the app the button reads Buy USDT with 0 fees.
- From this point OKX holds the merchant's USDT for your order until the merchant confirms your payment, you cancel, or the order times out.
- Watch for a T+N notice while placing the order. If one appears, the USDT you buy may be locked for several days (see the section below). If that does not suit you, back out before placing the order and get matched with a different ad; cancelling after you have placed the order can count against you as a frequent canceller.
- Got an error that the merchant's stock is insufficient? Switch to an ad that can cover your amount, or let Express pick one for you.
Step 4: Pay the merchant, then mark the order as paid
- Follow the payment instructions on the order and send the money with your own banking or wallet app, to the account shown on the order and nowhere else.
- Pay from an account in your verified name. Under OKX's dispute rules, a name mismatch means the coins are not released, the merchant refunds you, you cover any refund fees, and your P2P function is suspended for 15 days.
- Leave crypto out of the payment message. OKX tells buyers not to write words such as crypto, BTC or USDT in the transfer remark; if you do and the merchant holds back, support arranges either a release or a refund, with any refund fee on you.
- Pay inside the payment window, preferably with an instant method. Do not send money when the timer is nearly out: if it reaches zero before you mark the order as paid, the USDT goes back to the merchant.
- Once the money has really left your account, select I have paid, upload the payment proof and confirm. Marking an order as paid without paying gets it cancelled, and OKX's rules say an account whose orders are cancelled for that reason three or more times can be suspended from trading.
- If the merchant's account will not accept your transfer, ask for another account in the OKX chat. If you cannot sort it out, cancel and choose a different merchant.
Step 5: Receive the USDT, or open a dispute
When the merchant selects Release Crypto, the USDT lands in your Funding Account at once. If nothing happens, use Remind Seller, message the merchant in the order chat, and if that fails, submit a dispute with your payment proof. An order that expired after you paid can still be disputed.
Do not cancel an order you have paid for. Cancelling does not send your money back; recovering it then depends on the merchant agreeing to refund, with OKX support helping. OKX also limits how many orders you can cancel in a day.
For trades outside the CNY market, OKX's dispute rules set out what support does in the common cases:
- You paid by a real-time method and the merchant has not released within 15 minutes: support contacts the merchant and, if there is no response, handles the release manually.
- You paid by a slower method: support asks the merchant to release within 2 to 5 working days, depending on the region.
- You paid the correct amount from a matching account and the merchant tries to raise the price: support releases the order manually after 12 hours, unless the agreed price was abnormally low, more than 10% under the market price. For orders above 1,000 USD the allowed gap is 5%, and an order beyond it is cancelled. Vietnam has its own tighter bands.
- You overpaid: support asks the merchant to refund the excess on a best-effort basis, and OKX is not liable if the merchant does not.
T+N: why bought USDT can be locked for days
OKX runs a risk assessment on each P2P purchase. If it flags the order, the amount you bought cannot be withdrawn, resold on P2P or used for DEX trading for 3, 7 or 15 calendar days, weekends and public holidays included. OKX calls this T+N security protection and says it exists to keep high-risk funds out and to lower the chance of bank accounts being frozen.
- Only the order amount is affected. Other funds in your account and other features keep working.
- You get three reminders: when placing the order, while it awaits payment, and while waiting for the merchant to confirm. No reminder means no lock.
- The order details page shows the unlock time, and the restriction lifts by itself when it is reached.
- You can appeal once through Assets, Locked Assets, P2P Order, Appeal, with payment proof and recent statements. Approval is not guaranteed and the result is final.
If you need the USDT somewhere else today, a locked order is the wrong order whatever its price, so read the notice before you commit.
Where OKX P2P is cheaper, and how to check
No platform is cheapest everywhere, and the answer moves during the day. This site collects OKX P2P ads alongside Binance, Bybit, Bitget and HTX, so you can check instead of guessing.
- The OKX overview. The OKX P2P page lists every currency the site tracks, with OKX's average buy and sell price for 1,000 USDT. Its last column, "vs cheapest other", compares OKX's 1,000 USDT buy average with the lowest one among the other platforms. A negative figure means OKX is cheaper than all of them for that currency right now; a positive figure means another platform is cheaper. A dash means OKX, or every other platform, could not fill 1,000 USDT from the ads that passed the checks.
- The currency page. On any currency page, the by-platform table puts OKX next to the others, with the number of ads, how many were filtered out, and a depth bar for how much USDT the ads that passed the checks can supply. A cheap price on a shallow book may not hold for a large order.
- The OKX market pages. For Nigeria and Pakistan the site also has dedicated OKX pages: OKX USDT to NGN and OKX USDT to PKR list the top checked merchants on OKX itself.
When the numbers are close, the deciding factors are often not the price: whether the merchants accept the payment method you use, whether T+N is likely to matter to you, and how deep the book is for your amount.
Safety rules worth repeating
- Keep every message in the OKX order chat. OKX warns against moving to Telegram, WhatsApp or Discord.
- When selling, check your bank or wallet for the money before releasing. OKX notes that receipts and screenshots are easy to fake.
- Nobody from OKX support will ask you to scan a QR code or hand over a verification code.
- Pay only to the account on the order page. OKX does not guarantee a refund if you pay a different account.
The live table at the end of this guide shows how OKX compares with the other platforms for the Pakistani rupee right now.

Questions people ask
Is OKX P2P safe?
OKX locks the merchant's crypto when your order opens and hands it to you only after the merchant confirms your payment, and its support team handles disputes with published rules, including manual release when a merchant who has been paid by a real-time method does not release within 15 minutes. Most losses come from stepping outside that system: paying from an account in another name, paying an account not shown on the order, moving the chat to Telegram or WhatsApp, or releasing coins after a fake receipt. Stay on the order page and those protections apply.
What are OKX P2P fees?
OKX says it charges zero fee on P2P trading, and in the app the confirm button reads Buy USDT with 0 fees. Your bank or wallet may still charge for the transfer you send to the merchant, so check that with your payment provider. Merchants pay no service fee to join the merchant program or to post ads either. The real cost of an OKX P2P purchase is therefore the ad price itself, which you can compare with other platforms on this site's OKX page and currency pages.
What is the difference between OKX P2P and Express?
Express asks for your amount, the crypto and your payment method, shows a preview with the quote locked for a short countdown of roughly 10 to 30 seconds, and then matches you with an ad. P2P trading shows the full list of ads, so you choose the merchant yourself after looking at the price, limits, payment methods and completion rate. Both run on the same escrow and dispute rules. Express is quicker for repeat purchases; the ad list is better for a first order or a large amount.
Why is OKX P2P not available?
Several things can block it. OKX says not all products are available in all jurisdictions, and its help articles note that their rules may not apply to every customer. An account that has not completed identity verification cannot buy or sell crypto at all. Verified users can only trade P2P in the fiat currency of their registered region, and payment methods from other countries are not supported. Finally, some currencies simply have few or no OKX ads at a given moment, which the by-platform tables on this site show.
What is T+N on OKX P2P?
T+N is OKX's security protection for P2P purchases. If its risk system flags an order, the amount you bought cannot be withdrawn, resold on P2P or used for DEX trading for 3, 7 or 15 calendar days, including weekends and holidays. Other funds and features are not affected. OKX shows a reminder when you place the order, while it awaits payment and while you wait for release, and the order page shows the unlock time. You can appeal once with payment proof and statements, but approval is not guaranteed.
